Matsumoto Chikuho, a leading modern HATAI calligrapher, devoted himself to researching and developing HATAI extensively. By incorporating Kinbun — one of the oldest forms of Chinese characters — he redefined and systematized HATAI into a contemporary calligraphy art form.
